The research directions of the Department of Thermal Sciences concern the fundamental engineering level, in the fields of Engineering Thermodynamics and Heat and Mass Transfer, as well as the applied level, in the specific fields in thermal engineering: Thermal equipment (heat exchangers, boilers, burners etc.), Building Physics, Refrigeration, Cryogenic and Heat Pump systems, Energy from Renewable Resources.
Main theoretical and applied research in the thermal and refrigeration fields:
- Fundamental processes of heat and mass transfer;
- Studies of optimization of refrigeration equipment and systems with mechanical compression and/or absorption;
- Studies regarding thermal systems optimization (renewable energies, heat exchangers, HVAC&R and cogeneration systems);
- Studies regarding burning efficiency and environmental protection for boilers, burners and heating equipment.
